It was just six years ago today that we all watched in horror as the twin towers fell to the ground. We saw the Pentagon in flames and heard about Flight 93 that went down in a field. We had no idea what we were up against and where the struggle would take us.

Fast forward to today. Memorial services are being held as a Congressional committee meets with the general in charge of operations in Iraq. Many of us have differing ideas on how this should go. Some are weary of war and want our soldiers home. Others see a need to continue the struggle to keep terrorism away from our shores. Finally, let’s not forget the politicians who seek to gain political power using this situation. They are on both sides of the isle.

For me, today is a day to remember. I remember where I was when I first saw the horrifying images on television. I remember most things I did on that day. I am praying and remembering all those who lost their lives or loved ones on that fateful day, and those who have since lost their lives and loved ones in this struggle against terror.

Today is a day to put politics aside and remember. History will remember this as a defining moment in our collective history. Let’s hope that those that come after us will be able to look back and say we made the right choices during this difficult time and remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice as the heroes that they were and are.
