The Polar Express 2007, originally uploaded by The Dark Knight.

So last Friday, my wife and I took our 4 year old son on The Polar Express. This is a new attraction for the California State Railroad Museum. Almost all the children were dressed in their pajamas, and even a few adults. Once they get you on the vintage train, they play the soundtrack to the movie over the speakers. Once the train gets going, we are immediately entertained by tap dancers serving hot chocolate and cookies. The song from the movie is infectious and will become a family favorite for years to come. Next, we got the reading of The Polar Express story, as helpers walk through out the train showing the book as the story progresses. As we get to the end of the first half of the trip, we arrive at the North Pole and see Santa for the first time outside the train. Then, Christmas carols are sung and as we get going again for the return trip, Santa walks the aisles handing out bells from his sleigh, just like from the book and movie. Our son had the time of his life and will be sharing his experience with his pre-school friends today during show and tell.

This was the first year the museum has done this and it is a huge hit. If you click over to the the web site, you will see that they are completely sold out. We were lucky that my wife saw this early and got us tickets or we would have missed out. I have a feeling that this will become a family tradition as our son loves trains and, like all children, loves Christmas.
