CIA Confirms: Waterboarding 9/11 Mastermind Led to Info that Aborted 9/11-Style Attack on Los Angeles

Before you condem the methods, you must first look at the results.

Former Vice President Cheney is asking for full disclosure, based upon the same principals.

The May 30, 2005 Justice Department memo that details what happened in this regard was written by then-Principal Deputy Attorney General Steven G. Bradbury to John A. Rizzo, the senior deputy general counsel for the CIA.

“You have informed us that the interrogation of KSM—once enhanced techniques were employed—led to the discovery of a KSM plot, the ‘Second Wave,’ ‘to use East Asian operatives to crash a hijacked airliner into’ a building in Los Angeles,” says the memo.

In the memo itself, the Justice Department’s Bradbury told the CIA’s Rossi: “Your office has informed us that the CIA believes that ‘the intelligence acquired from these interrogations has been a key reason why al Qa’ida has failed to launch a spectacular attack in the West since 11 September 2001.”

It is not blind luck that we have not been attacked since 9/11. Things were done that many do not approve of, but we were under attack and without those methods, many more would have died. It is time to stop the finger pointing and limited disclosures that only serve political purposes.

Let the people see ALL the facts and make their own minds up.

  1. Well then if it’s okay for us to use torture techniques then we have NO place judging other countries for doing the same.

Torture techniques are used to get information out of someone no matter if the torturer is good or bad, or if the torturee is good or bad.

So basically we are just the same as those terrorist groups or Regimes we fight so hard against.

  2. Then I guess you do not care if a terrorist has information that could save lives but we cannot do anything. If you read the article, then you saw that these folks could care less about us and relished the thought of more Americans dying. I am a firm believer in peace through strength. It is the only thing our enemies will respect and proved quite effective when Ronald Reagan was President and the Soviet Empire fell. I am quite uneasy now with the current administration making friendly gestures towards countries that have called for our demise. It is a sign of weakness that others are definitely watching. The world is not what we would like it to be and to ensure our freedom that we have fought so hard to attain, we must be ever vigilant and use the means at our disposal to keep us safe.

  3. So by the Obama Adminstration releasing some reports that said ,”Yes we tortured” means there will be more terror attacks?

Mmm I wonder what the Bush Adminstration did to cause the 9/11 attacks then? Because you do know that that attack happened 8 months after he became President.

You also know that previous Presidents meet with leaders (smiling and shaking hands) that were at odds with us and called for our demise, right?

Let me name a few Russian dictators previous Presidents meet, smiled, and shook hands with who didn’t like us to much….

    Nixon-Brezhnev
    Kennedy-Khrushchev
    REAGAN-Gorbachev

    Also Nixon-Mao

All these president smiled and shook hands with these people.

As said in my previous comment “Well then if it’s okay for us to use torture techniques then we have NO place judging other countries for doing the same.”

If we do as they do then we are no better and should no longer call ourselves “World Leader” in anything.

  4. Sure he released the reports, but did not release what was found out by using these methods. The report linked to in the post did not come from the President. he is only presenting one side of the story. So, President Bush is to blame for 9/11? Seems to me we heard that these attacks were planed for years, most notably under President Clinton, who did not take our Osama Bin Laden when he had a chance. Did previous President shake hands with dictators, of course. But all you have cited were/are major super powers that needed to be dealt with, not third rate dictators like Chavez who deserve more to be ignored that what he got. Hand wringing and guilt will only bring us down. Are we not allowed to protect ourselves with means at our disposal? We are at war, make no mistake about it.

  5. First of all let me make this clear. I don’t think the Bush Administration caused the 9/11 attacks just like I don’t believe that ANY American Administration did or WILL cause any terror attacks.

So by Obama releasing reports saying, “Yes we torture” WILL NOT cause any terror attacks. If terrorists want to attack us they will.

“Seems to me we heard that these attacks were planed for years, most notably under President Clinton, who did not take our Osama Bin Laden when he had a chance.”

So it’s okay to say that if a terror attack happens under President Obama’s watch that those terrorist were actually planning for years before Obama became President and no matter who became president they would still attack us? And with the Bush Administration using torture techniques during the time terrorist were planning these so-called future attacks on American, then that just proves torture techniques do not work because they did not stop future attacks.

Another thing how do they know that they are torturing someone who has information who may or may not be part of a terrorist group?

So it’s okay for us to torture innocent people?

Also I don’t remember Bush capturing Osama Bin Laden, especially when there’s reported evidence out there that said Bush had a chance of taking Osama Bin Laden out with a air raid, but instead order troops go into the mountain sides between Pakistan and Afghanistan on foot which they end up missing him.

“But all you have cited were/are major super powers that needed to be dealt with, not third rate dictators like Chavez who deserve more to be ignored that what he got.”

Hmm if I am not mistaken Chavez has close ties to Cube(who have nukes) and also now have close ties to Iran (who have nuke capabilities).
Yea he sounds Third rate to me.

And one more thing you know we don’t get all of our oil from the Middle East, right?

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/5358486.stm

Sounds like we should atleast talk to this guy before he gets out of hand.

Just look at what Bush did for Iran. By not talking to them they became even more powerful and have closer ties to our other enemies than they ever have been before.

Don’t you think that President Obama is probably opening up talks with Chavez for a reason…..Hmm maybe trying to cut his ties with Iran while strengthening out our ties with him and Cuba?

Can you say 2 for 1.

  6. Also that BBC report about Chavez is dated 19 September 2006. Just to give you good idea which American Administration he was talking to.

  7. You are correct in that if an attack happens soon, the planning occurred under the Bush Adminsitration. The other part of your argument on this is pure supposition and cannot be supported unless we are attacked, which we have not since 9/11. I wonder why?

Torturing innocent people? Even the memo’s released yesterday talked about techniques used on KSM, the mastermind behind 9/11. Not an innocent in my book.

Chavez is a third rate dictator who buddies up to others to make himself feel more important. Sort of like Mussolini with Hitler. Are they dangerous, or course, but he is not a real threat and never will be.

Lastly, if terrorists are afraid of us or what we will do if we catch them, then they will think twice before attacking again. They hate our way of life and no amount of talking will change that. The only thing they will respect is strength. War is not pretty or for the faint of heart and our enemies think they are involved in a holy war. Saying we are sorry will only embolden them.

  8. CLINTON developed the nation’s first anti-terrorism policy,
and appointed first national coordinator of anti-terrorist efforts.

    · Bill Clinton stopped cold the Al Qaeda millennium hijacking and bombing plots.

    · Bill Clinton stopped cold a planned attack to kill the Pope.

    · Bill Clinton stopped cold a planned attack to blow up 12 U.S. jetliners simultaneously.

    · Bill Clinton stopped cold a planned attack to blow up UN Headquarters.

    · Bill Clinton stopped cold a planned attack to blow up FBI Headquarters.

    · Bill Clinton stopped cold a planned attack to blow up the Israeli Embassy in Washington.

    · Bill Clinton stopped cold a planned attack to blow up Boston airport.

    · Bill Clinton stopped cold a planned attack to blow up Lincoln and Holland Tunnels in NY.

    · Bill Clinton stopped cold a planned attack to blow up the George Washington Bridge.

    · Bill Clinton stopped cold a planned attack to blow up the US Embassy in Albania.

    · Bill Clinton tried to kill Osama bin Laden and disrupt Al Qaeda through
preemptive strikes (efforts denounced by the G.O.P.).

    · Bill Clinton brought perpetrators of first World Trade Center bombing and CIA killings to justice.

    · Bill Clinton did not blame the Bush I administration for first WTC bombing even though it
occurred 38 days after Bush left office. Instead, worked hard, even obsessively – and successfully
    – to stop future terrorist attacks.

    · Bill Clinton named the Hart-Rudman commission to report on nature of terrorist threats
and major steps to be taken to combat terrorism.

    · Bill Clinton sent legislation to Congress to tighten airport security. (Remember, this is before 911)
The legislation was defeated by the Republicans because of opposition from the airlines.

    · Bill Clinton sent legislation to Congress to allow for better tracking of terrorist funding.
It was defeated by Republicans in the Senate because of opposition from banking interests.

    · Bill Clinton sent legislation to Congress to add tagents to explosives, to allow for better tracking
of explosives used by terrorists. It was defeated by the Republicans because of opposition from the NRA.

    · Bill Clinton increased the military budget by an average of 14 per cent, reversing the trend under Bush I.

    · Bill Clinton tripled the budget of the FBI for counterterrorism and doubled overall funding for counterterrorism.

    · Bill Clinton detected and destroyed cells of Al Qaeda in over 20 countries.

    · Bill Clinton created national stockpile of drugs and vaccines including 40 million doses of smallpox vaccine.

    · Of Clinton’s efforts says Robert Oakley, Reagan Ambassador for Counterterrorism:
“Overall, I give them very high marks” and “The only major criticism I have is the obsession with Osama”.

    · Paul Bremer, current Civilian Administrator of Iraq disagrees slightly with Robert Oakley as
he believed the Bill Clinton Administration had “correctly focused on bin Laden.

    · Barton Gellman in the Washington Post put it best, “By any measure available, Bill Clinton left office
having given greater priority to terrorism than any president before him” and was the “first administration
to undertake a systematic anti-terrorist effort”.

    Clarence Swinney,
    Political Historian

NOTE: These were not my words….got from this site http://www.bartcop.com/clinton-terror-stopped.htm

I don’t think Clinton used torture to stop terrorism.

Also you contradicting yourself “They hate our way of life and no amount of talking will change that.” So by Reagan talking and negotiating with Gorbachev did not help end the Cold War? Only torture can do that?

Also why should Non-European dictators be approach differently than European dictators?

  9. Bill Clinton must be a super hero the way you have pointed things out. Sorry, forgot, not your words. Too bad history will not be as kind.

We could go on and on about this, bottom line is I believe nothing was done that was wrong. Attacks were stopped and lives were saved, that is all that matters.

Reagan negotiated with Gorby? Heck, he scared him to death and Gorby had a country that was running out of money trying to keep up with us. I don’t think it was a negotiation when Reagan said, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down these walls” speaking about the Berlin wall.

  10. I am not making anyone into a super hero, but what I am saying is that we are a law of nations. We have laws that say we don’t torture, but the Bush Administration decided to ignore those laws and make new ones to say that we do.

Also they water-board KSM over 100 times….what once isn’t good enough?

Thank God Obama decided to reverse those laws and bring back America’s dignity.

Also John McCain was torture before and he admitted he gave false information to his holders.

So I guess we will agree to disagree.

  11. I meant land of laws.

  12. Thank God that we have not been attacked again since 9/11.

I just want it to stay that way as I am sure you do as well. We just have different opinions on how that can be achieved.

  13. Drudge Report and CNSNews.com (?) glad to see you didn’t get your information from bias conservative medias.

Also don’t be so quick to say that no terrorist attack happened after 9/11….

    * 2001-10–16: Anthrax mailings in US.
    * 2002-07-04: Egyptian kills two Israelis at El Al ticket counter at the Los Angles International Airport.
    * 2002 October: Beltway Sniper (drove done a major freeway killing people with a sniper gun).

Are these acts not consider terror attacks because not a lot of people were hurt or killed, or because Al Qaeda didn’t take claim to them?

Also countless of US Embassy were attacked on Bush’s watch……do we not count US Embassies as American soil, even though Americans use these embassies as safe havens?

    * 2006-09-12: Gunmen attack US Embassy in Syria

  14. The story can be seen at many different sites. I am sure you can even find it at one of your liberal sites. The point was and still is that the Obama administration selectively released documents even though they were briefed that valuable information that saved lives was found out. They are proving to be no better than their predecessors that you are trying so hard to defend.
